At the "Wine & Cheese" registration night on Friday, September16, 2011, the Board of Directors formally handed over the "official" club keys to John Norton, their new Club Manager.

John began his curling career in 1980 at the Huntsville Curling Club, and was mentored there by Russ Howard, who was their Senior Ice Technician. Howard went on to win numerous Canadian championships, and was a member of Canada's first men's team to win an Olympic gold medal with the Brad Gushue team from Newfoundland at the 2006 Olympics in Turin, Italy. John took over as Senior Ice Technician at Huntsville from 1983 to 1996.

In 1996, John relocated to the Port Hope area, and joined the Dalewood Golf and Curling Club as Club Manager and Senior Ice Technician. He has now accepted a similar position at the Ennismore Curling Club.

John currently holds a Canadian Curling Association (CCA) Level 3 Ice Technician's certification, and is a member of the Ontario Curling Association's (OCA) provincial Ice Team, where he consults with, and provides advise and assistance to other Ice Technicians. In that capacity, he is also the Ice Team's representative on the OCA Rules Committee.

On the competitive stage, John is also certified as a CCA Level 2 Ice Official, and has officiated at many provincial and national championships over the past 25 years. As a curling instructor, John also holds a Level 2 Curl Canada Instructor certification as well.

As an avid curler himself from age 13, John has had much success, and has been on the winning teams of Colts, Governor Generals, United Mixed, and Ramada Challenge teams. Always wishing to give back to the sport of curling, John estimates that over the years, he has provided instruction and coaching to over 2000 students in the junior curling ranks.

John currently resides in Port Hope, and is planning to relocate and purchase a home in the Ennismore area. He can be reached at the Club Office at 705-292-5200, or by e-mail at ennismorecurling@yahoo.com

As the "official" keys were presented, Warren Mills, Chairperson of the Board stated "we are so very pleased to welcome John Norton to the Ennismore Curling Club, and hope that he will truly enjoy many years of success with us". In welcoming John, Warren certainly spoke for all the membership.
