Curling Etiquette

If you cannot be present for a game: You are responsible for
getting your own spare . You should start looking for someone
as soon as you know you will not be available---don't wait until
the last minute. If there is a bye team ask these players first and
then check the spare list. Advise your skip who you have gotten
for a spare—or, that you have not been able to get one. Ideally
this should be done at least a day in advance of the game (in
case the skip has to contact team members).
BE READY TO START ON TIME: You should start going out
on the ice at least 10 minutes before your start time so the first
rock is thrown on time. A new end is not started after 8:50 p.m.
The late game starts at 9:00 p.m. When you arrive on the ice, greet each
opposing player by shaking hands and if necessary introduce
yourself
During the game : Normally, you should be able to play a full
eight ends in two hours. To do this be ready when it is your
turn to deliver the rock you should be in the hack (& cleaning
your rock) before the opposing player's rock has come to rest at
the other end. Leads and seconds should set up the skip's
rocks. After an end and after the vices have agreed on the
scoring, assist in clearing the rocks quickly from play.
When your opposition is preparing to deliver (or delivering)
their rock, sweepers should stand at the side of the sheet
between the hog lines . Ensure that your broom is also out of
the way. Do not cross the sheet when a player is in the hack.
Skips (and vices) should remain still behind the house when the
opposition is delivering a rock.
If you “burn” a rock (touch the rock when sweeping), divulge
your infraction. If you touch a rock in play it is your
responsibility to divulge your infraction.
Only vices should b e in the house while the scoring for an end
is being determined.
After the game: At the end of the game (win or lose), shake
hands with each opposing player and thank them for the game.
Traditionally, the winners buy the first drink and the losers
always offer a refill.
Always play the game in a spirit of good sportsmanship
Have fun, give your best effort and allow others to do the same

utilize your experience.
